Progressive Lenses at Kopolow & Girisgen Doctors of Optometry

Vision correction isn't always a simple or straightforward process. Just as one corrective prescription does not fit all, correcting vision at a single distance level isn't sufficient for people with presbyopia. If you want to avoid carrying multiple pairs of glasses around, but you don't like the idea of wearing segmented bifocals or trifocals, you may be an ideal candidate for progressive lenses. Here at Kopolow & Girisgen Doctors of Optometry in Las Vegas, we will be happy to fit you with the right progressive lenses for your needs.

Why Choose Progressive Lenses?

Presbyopia is an extremely common, and aggravating, vision problem in people aged 40 and older. It occurs when the eyes' lenses start to stiffen up, making it harder for the muscles attached to them to bring near objects into focus. If your intermediate and distance vision are still fine, you might need nothing more than a pair of reading glasses to compensate. If you have other refractive errors on top of your presbyopia, you may need help seeing at multiple distances. Since it's impractical to keep switching among several pars of glasses, bifocals and trifocals have traditionally been the solution. While these lenses offer near and intermediate corrective segments, the stark shifts from one corrective field to another can be distracting or annoying. These lenses also advertise the fact that you're old enough to need them!

Progressive lenses do away with those separate segments. These lenses are specially formed to accommodate all possible near, intermediate, and distance corrections in one smooth gradation. Your eye naturally looks through the right area of the lens to see what it needs to see, with the distance fields in the upper part of the lens and the near correction toward the bottom.

A Perfect Fit from Your Las Vegas Optometrist

Either Las Vegas optometrist on our team can perform the necessary eye exam and vision testing to evaluate your presbyopia and write a prescription for progressive lenses. We will then mark the way your pupils are centered in the lenses so that the progressive correction will line up with them perfectly. Your eyes and brain will need to get used to using the central area of the lenses, where all the correction resides. Your brain will also learn to ignore a certain "swim" distortion introduced by these lenses.
