Hard To Fit Contacts at Kopolow & Girigsen Doctors of Optometry in Las Vegas
If you are like many people, you would rather wear glasses than contacts. For some people, the transition is easy. For others, it is a bit more difficult because their eyes are hard to fit for contacts. Regardless of your condition, our team at Kopolow & Girigsen Doctors of Optometry in Las Vegas will be able to prescribe contact lenses that are right for you.
If you have an irregular eye shape or another eye impairment or condition, you would be considered a patient who is “hard to fit” for contact lenses. A few of these conditions include:
Astigmatism
Presbyopia
Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis (GPC)
Keratoconus
Dry eye syndrome
If you have had Lasik surgery
Your optometrist can find you a contact lens that is comfortable based on the condition that you are suffering from.
Astigmatism: If you have astigmatism, your cornea has an irregular shape. Toric lenses are specifically designed for people with astigmatism as they can fit with the irregular shape of your cornea.
Presbyopia: If you have presbyopia, your optometrist will recommend bifocal or multifocal contacts. These lenses can have multiple prescriptions in one lens which will correct your distance and near vision.
GPC: GPC can cause a buildup of protein deposits on the contacts. This can cause blurry vision and eye infections. If you have GPC, your optometrist will recommend daily disposable contacts so that the protein buildup is not an issue. They might also recommend gas permeable lenses.
Keratoconus: This condition causes your cornea to thin and bulge. Rigid gas permeable lenses will correct your vision while helping to treat the condition.
Dry eye syndrome: If you have dry eye, wearing soft contact lenses can exacerbate the condition. Your eye doctor will recommend gas permeable or rigid gas permeable lenses because they don't dry out quickly.
Post-Lasik: If you had Lasik surgery and still require correction for your vision to be 20/20, your optometrist will recommend rigid gas permeable lenses. This type will prevent Lasik side effects such as glare and halos around lights.
During your contact lens exam, the optometrist will evaluate the shape and condition of your eye to determine which type of lens best suits you.
If you have a condition that will make contacts hard to fit, don't worry. Our optometrists at Kopolow & Girigsen Doctors of Optometry will find the right type of lens to fit your hard to fit eyes. To schedule a contact lens exam with our eye doctors in Las Vegas, give us a call today.
