The Importance of an Eye Exam

Our Las Vegas optometrist can detect eye diseases early when you receive an eye exam even if your symptoms do seem serious. For instance, we often advise patients about diabetic optical nerve or retinal damage testing.

When You Should See an Optometrist

Everyone sees an optometrist for different reasons. We recommend it if you notice the following symptoms:

  • Irritated eyes – If you don't have any allergies, it might be conjunctivitis otherwise known as pinkeye, which is a bacterial or viral infection.  Keratitis is another eye infection brought on by viruses or bacteria, and a fungal or parasitic infection could cause irritation and redness.
  • Blurry vision – Nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and other cornea shape issues cause it. Cataracts that leave a cloudy film over the eye also might result in vision blurriness.
  • Floaters – These are black or gray dots that appear in front of your eyes when you look at white paper, the sky, or other bright objects. It rarely requires treatment, but you still might want to see our optometrist.
  • Dry eyes – Your Las Vegas, NV optometrist can find a solution for you to help you produce tears. Otherwise, we may recommend contacts made for people with dry eyes.

Regular Checkups - Another Reason to See an Optometrist

Routine exams are what can help us manage your vision before it worsens. Even if you notice no symptoms, you still will want to schedule an eye exam at least once every two years. After a medical history consultation, we will perform near and far vision acuity, eye function, and retinal light refraction tests.
